MANY HANDS (2022)

Many Hands (2022) is a soundscape composed using an antique terracotta storage jar (70cm x100cm x70cm). As this jar is ceramic (a very tactile medium) I wanted to investigate this object through a piece reflecting the life of the object through touch - from the hands that crafted it, through the assortment of hands that have touched it since, before finally my own hands working to create sounds that I would then craft into this soundscape. This piece is made up of four parts - creation, practical life, aesthetic, and finally musical. These recordings are as you hear them with no edited effects or post-recording augmentation in order to retain the focus of the piece, and the project as a whole, on tactility and the musical potential of the jar.
